Fusion. Mitch Mitchell figured it out. A drummer (two, mostly) plays the “rock” function and the “jazz” simultaneously. Then! You are like that bouncy red follow-the-bouncing-ball deadly on top of your own beat and lyrics.

Accents are hit (emphasis added) twice, so instead of adding elementrally audible percussive allusion to “notes,” it’s rather a “knock-knock,” at each ticket holder’s d oor.
